Development of Central Java Consumer Price / Inflation Index in October 2019

Abstract

In October 2019 in Central Java inflation occurred at 0.01 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 135.83. Inflation occurred in three SBH cities namely Surakarta City by 0.25 percent with CPI of 132.16; Tegal City was 0.13 percent with CPI of 133.95 and the lowest inflation in Kudus was 0.10 percent with CPI of 144.47. Deflation occurred in three SBH cities in Central Java namely Purwokerto by 0.08 percent with CPI of 134.00 followed by Cilacap City by 0.07 percent with CPI of 139.83 and the lowest deflation in Semarang by 0.06 percent with CPI at 135.70.
Inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in the expenditure group: the clothing group by 0.24 percent followed by the processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group by 0.17 percent; education, recreation and sports group by 0.14 percent; health group of 0.12 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group, and the transportation, communication and financial services group respectively by 0.04 percent. Deflation that occurred in Central Java was caused by a decrease in the index in the food expenditure group by 0.28 percent.
The main cause of inflation in Central Java in October 2019 was the increase in the price of purebred chicken, shallots, academies / colleges, filter clove cigarettes and cucumbers. The restraint of the inflation rate is the fall in the price of red chillies, chicken eggs, cayenne peppers, green chilies and apples.
The inflation rate for the calendar year October 2019 was 2.15 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (October 2019 against October 2018) was 2.84 percent.
